foundations SESSIONS

DESIGNED for complete beginners to bjj

Establish safe training habits
& learn key concepts

Tuesdays & Thursdays 6 PM (during the nogi class)

WHO IS THIS FOR?
Designed for RGES members who are new to BJJ
No prior experience needed!

WHAT ARE FOUNDATIONS SESSIONS?
Foundations sessions bring together beginner students to go over the basic concepts, components, and context of what was shown to the mixed-level nogi class.

As with all of RGES classes, the Foundations sessions are a safety-first and welcoming environment.

Attendees are introduced to additional conceptual frameworks and movements that are the foundation for BJJ, helping them develop confidence via lessons that are engineered for novices.

There is positional training within the Foundations sessions, allowing participants to experience the challenge — and fun — of training with resistance. Foundations participants may also engage with live rolling with more advanced students during rounds.

The goal is for students to move from the Foundations sessions to participating fully in the regular class. While these are nogi sessions, they cover universal material.

WHAT ABOUT FUNDAMENTALS CLASSES?

We offer our 6:30 AM Fundamentals classes, which are meant for all students. These classes continue with key fundamental techniques and sequences that will help beginners get familiar with BJJ and help experienced players refine their games.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

RGES members can just show up to any 6 PM nogi class on Tuesdays and Thursdays to participate in a Foundations session.

People who are currently enrolled at other schools, including other Renzo Gracie academies may participate via the our drop-in Day Pass.

People who have not trained BJJ before or who do not belong to another school. should complete our Getting Started form for next steps about training at RGES.
